Shared Hosting - Recent Server Upgrade may break outdated osCommerce sites

Posted March 24th @ 1:51 pm by Patrick

It has come to our attention that the recent server upgrade on our shared hosting server spear.garlic.com has caused some older versions of osCommerce to break. The most common issues are blank pages, or database errors.

We have determined the cause to be an issue with older versions of osCommerce not working well with PHP5. Since PHP4 had an End of Life (EOL) of 12/31/2007, and because of the upgrade to PHP5, it has caused these errors to arise.

To fix this issue, we are urging all customers who use osCommerce to make sure they are using the most current version of osCommerce - v2.2 Release Candidate 2a.

This issue should only effect customers who chose to manually install osCommerce. If you chose to install osCommerce through Installatron, our easy to use script installer, you should not experience this issue.

FrontPage Server Extensions EOL

Posted March 23rd @ 8:13 am by Patrick

We will be terminating support for Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions on our shared hosting machines today. This is due to Microsoft no longer supporting their FrontPage Server Extensions. Microsoft has terminated support for FrontPage Server Extensions as of June 30th, 2006.

Microsoft has introduced an alternative to FrontPage called Microsoft Expression. This program has replaced FrontPage in the recent years, and all users are suggested to upgrade to this version to increase compatibility with our servers. More information on Microsoft Expression can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/expression/

Since Microsoft has officially terminated support for FrontPage Server Extensions, South Valley Internet must follow suit in order to provide the security you deserve.

All customers who are on the servers in which the FrontPage Server Extensions are being removed from have already been notified several weeks ago. If you don’t know what FrontPage Server Extensions are, or if you did not get the e-mail, you are not effected and can safely disregard this notice.

Thank you for being a valued customer of South Valley Internet!
