spear.garlic.com – Almost complete

Posted April 22nd @ 12:14 am by Patrick

Most of the web sites from the old spear.garlic.com have now been migrated to the new machine.  Some of you may experience missing e-mails from the past few days – they will arrive in your mailbox shortly.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this migration/server update.

spear.garlic.com – Second Phase – Monday 4/21/2008 11:00PM PST

Posted April 19th @ 4:46 pm by Patrick

We will continue the second and final phase in migrating our customers onto a new shared hosting server.

Starting Monday night at 11:00PM PST, we will be taking the existing spear.garlic.com shared hosting server and are replacing it with a new machine.  This will alleviate all issues with speed on the box.  The process should take until roughly 3:00AM PST.  No e-mail will be lost at this time, but please be aware that all services will be temporarily unavailable to use.

This only effects customers who have their domain-based shared web and e-mail hosting on spear.garlic.com.

spear.garlic.com – Emergency Server Maintenance – Sat April 19 12:00am PST

Posted April 17th @ 6:58 pm by Patrick

We will be replacing the current spear.garlic.com server with a much faster, more efficient machine. There have been support e-mails and calls recently about the sluggishness of the server. In response, we will be building a brand new server to replace spear.

What this means is that starting Saturday, April 19 at 12:00am, we will be migrating all customers from this machine to spear’s replacement. All services will be temporarily offline until 3am. No e-mail will be lost at this time. You will, however, be unable to send e-mail and browse your web site.

This only effects customers who have domains which are hosted on spear.garlic.com. If you would like to know what server your domain is on, you can either issue a ‘ping‘ from the Windows/Mac/Linux command line, or visit https://svi.garlic.com/webmail and enter your domain – after entering your domain and hitting Submit look in the Address bar of your browser – if it says https://svi.garlic.com/spearmail/ then you will be affected.

We thank you for your understanding and apologize in advance for any inconvenience this causes.

If you are experiencing issues with your garlic.com E-mail account…

Please make sure your mail account is set to the following settings:

Incoming Mail Server Information:
- mail.garlic.com

Outgoing Mail Server Information:
- mail.garlic.com
- Port 587
- “My Server Requires Authentication” box is checked

If you are wondering why your e-mail has stopped sending all of a sudden, we made some changes to protect our garlic.com customers from spam. This setting to change your default port from 25 to 587 was sent out as a notification to the primary contact e-mail for your account in November of 2007.
