Posted December 7th @ 3:03 pm by robertg

The fiber cross-connect that connects our Hollister POP (Point of Presence) to our San Martin NOC (Network Operations center) will be impacted by maintenance occuring out of the fiber providers central office on 12/10 sometime between 1am and 4am.  The maximum expected downtime is 90 minutes.

During the downtime, customer’s internet service which originates from the Hollister NOC may experience decreased performace, as all data will be going over our backup link.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Domain Email Problem

Posted November 5th @ 12:09 pm by robertg

Customers with domain email hosted on Spear had problems sending email this morning.  One of the domains hosted on Spear was subject to an attack that seems to have started around 8:30am PST.  We became aware that there was some kind of issue at 8:45am PST.  We identified the problem, and formulated a solution that we put into place at about 11:10am.  This solution has proved successful.  Email is flowing normally.  We will be closely monitoring this situation.

Cogent / Sprint Update II

Posted November 3rd @ 9:38 am by robertg

Sprint has re-established their connection with Cogent as of 10/2, so we have restored our previous configuration.  Sprint has stated that this is potentially a temporary solution.   The two companies have not resolved their differences, but service was restored for the good of service for the internet as a whole.  We will be closely monitoring the situation, and if the connection is severed again, we will take appropriate actions again.

Here is Sprint’s note on the issue: http://www.sprint.net/cogent.php

Cogent / Sprint Update

Posted October 31st @ 11:52 pm by robertg

As of this afternoon, Sprint-Nextel traffic was able to reach our network via our secondary upstream carrier.  We have made our secondary carrier the preferred route to the internet.  This has restored our ability to access hosts on Sprint-Nextel’s network.  As soon as the issues are resolved between Cogent and Sprint-Nextel, we will return our routing back to normal.

Cogent / Sprint Routing issue

Posted October 31st @ 11:38 am by robertg

Our primary upstream provider, Cogent, is currently having issues with Sprint.  Sprint has shut-off the link to Cogent, effectively partitioning them from the rest of the internet.  Cogent customers cannot access anything on Sprint’s network and vice-versa.  We are currently examining all possible options, including moving all traffic to one of our secondary upstream providers.  More information on this issue can be found at http://status.cogentco.com

We will update this message when we get any new information.

Email and dial-up service restored

Posted October 26th @ 1:22 pm by robertg

We had a system-wide email and dial-up issue that started about 9:30pm last night.  The problem was intermitted until about 2:30am, when both systems went down entirely.

We identified a software issue, corrected it, and both services were fully restored at around 12:30pm.

Due to the nature of the issue, we will be needing to build a new server so this problem will not occur again.

We apologize for the inconvenience.
